STARTER KIT 1: Rotary Tumbler Grit Kit with Alumina Polish
Rated 4/5 based on 2 reviews.999 units in stock
For those new to the hobby of rock tumbling, this starter kit is designed to get you up and running with the basics.
This kit contains four types of grit suitable for grinding and polishing:
- #80 Silicon Carbide for Coarse Grind - 500 grams
- #220 Silicon Carbide for Medium Grind - 500 grams
- #600 Silicon Carbide for Sanding/Pre-Polish - 500 grams
- 1 micron Aluminium Oxide (#14,000 grit) Final Polish - 500 grams
- BONUS 250 grams pack of plastic pellets
Grit is packed in strong plastic screw-top jars for convenient and easy storage. Contents are enough to do around 3 to 4 batches of rock in a 3 pound tumbler such as the Lortone 3A or 33B.
The polish included is 1 micron (#14,000) Aluminium Oxide which is a good general purpose final polish for most commonly found tumbling rocks. This is the kit we normally recommend to beginners and is included in our Tumbler Kits.
This kit is designed for for rotary or barrel type tumblers - please see alternative Starter Kits C or D if you have a vibratory tumbler.

Grit is excellent but plastic filler?
By: Tim on 11 May 2026I'd like to rate this higher but for the plastic pellets. They're horrible. Not only have I now contaminated my soil with micro plastics, these stupid things stick to everything and get everywhere. Trying to rinse your rocks or refill your tumbler? Not without these stupid bean things sticking to your seive, your fingers, the ceiling. Once wet, they will adhere to anything and everything. The plastics beans - they suck. The grits - they're excellent.

Aussie Sapphire Response
Sorry the plastic pellets were unsuitable for your needs. We are just waiting for a new batch of plastic which will be a different shape and should be less "sticky". However, I suggest that you might prefer the porcelain (non-abrasive ceramic) shapes instead. These are becoming more popular as filler media - more expensive initially but last much longer and are much more convenient (easier to handle and separate plus can be moved through the stages with the rocks instead of having to keep separate within stages).
Great value & quality
By: Jessie on 31 July 2022This kit, along with all other Grit Kits sold by Aussie Sapphire are cheaper than any others I could find on the internet containing the same products. Extremely happy with our kit so far, will definitely be a returning customer when I need refills.
