STARTER KIT 4: Rotary Tumbler Grit Kit, #80, #220, #600, Polish & Ceramics

This new Starter Kit includes Porcelain Ceramic Shapes filler media.

This starter kit is designed to get you up and running with the basics but uses Non-Abrasive Ceramic filler instead of plastic pellets and has a choice of polish.

Porcelain shapes are becoming much more popular these days so this kit does not include the old-fashioned plastic pellets.  Plus you get to choose what polish you want:  the Alumina polish is the most affordable but if you are primarily doing rocks in the 6 to 7 hardness range, you might consider Cerium Oxide or if you are doing harder rocks (such as garnet, topaz or garnet), you might go for the more expensive Tin Oxide.

This kit contains three types of grit suitable for grinding and a choice of polish:

• #80 Silicon Carbide for Coarse Grind - 500 grams
• #220 Silicon Carbide for Medium Grind - 500 grams
• #600 Silicon Carbide for Sanding/Pre-Polish - 500 grams
• Choice of Aluminium Oxide #14,000, Cerium Oxide or Tin Oxide for Polishing (see info below and select using option above). 
• 1 kg pack of non-abrasive porcelain ceramic shapes (mix of 4 shapes)

Grit and Polish is packed in strong plastic screw-top jars for convenient and easy storage.  Contents are enough to do around 3 to 4 batches of rock in a 3 pound tumbler such as the Lortone 3A/33B or Auscut Smooth 3.  

FINAL POLISH TYPE:  The default polish supplied is 500 grams of #14,000 Aluminium Oxide.  THis is a good general purpose polish and is very affordable.  If you intend tumbling a lot of quartz material (or glass or opal), then you may consider changing this to 250 grams Cerium Oxide.  Or if you are tumbling a range of material (including up to 8 hardness) and want the best polish, you can upgrade to 250 grams of Tin Oxide.
